I was reading these stories, and I knew I needed to share them with someone, and I figured if anyone could appreciate, it would be you!

A Very Naughty Girl by L. T. Meade and A Sweet Girl Graduate by the same author.

These stories are simply killing! Okay, they aged terribly, but they are fascinating to read with a view to what was marketed to young girls circa 100 years ago. I found them doubly fascinating in terms of class sterotypes and educational expectations for young women of the era.

I also heartily recommend Susan Coolidge’s books, especially the Katy series. What Katy Did, What Katy Did at School, and What Katy Did Next. There also seems to be a novel about Katy’s little sister Clover which I have not yet read. These books are also circa turn of the last century and are actually rather charming in their way.

Edited: Holy mother of pearl! There’s a whole bounty of more L. T. Meade stories on Project Gutenberg. Bonanza!
