Sage (the standing dog with the coppery eyebrows) is Ruby’s newest and best-matched playmate.
Melissa, Sage’s owner, is one of my biking buddies, and when we were cruisin’ the Cranksgiving, we were talking about how we ought to get our crazy dogs together for a puppy playdate. Since the weather was really nice today and we both had a free afternoon, Melissa and Sage came over, and oh my gosh, we all had an absolute ball. The dogs went completely bonkers together and we laughed ourselves breathless at their antics.
Sage and Ruby are pretty well matched for size and energy level, and they’re both a little…shall we say dippy. Sage may be 3-legged, but it doesn’t hold her back a bit. The two of them barreled around the backyard for about two hours, around the workshop, under the grape arbor, beneath the picnic bench, through the woodpile, over the retaining wall, and around the shop again. First Ruby would be chasing Sage, then Sage would chase Ruby. They slid through the mud, rolled around in the grass, wrestled, rassled, heckled, and hassled. They played keepaway with sticks, vaulted one another, and played bitey-biteyface. They rampaged around and burned off each other’s yah-yahs, so all we had to do was stand back and laugh. For two seemingly out-of-control critters, Sage and Ruby were amazingly agile. At one time the two of them seemed to be bound for a crash-course with our shins, and they gracefully peeled off, one to the right and one to the left at the very last second.
It was great because Melissa and I got a good chance to hang out, have some coffee, and shoot the bull, and our dogs willingly wore each other out. The scene in the dining room now is as follows:
I imagine it’s a pretty similar scene in Melissa’s living room right now, too. These two little lunatics went full throttle for the whole afternoon. Obviously they needed it. This is something we’re going to have to do more often – it’s fun for all involved. Next time we get “the girls” together, I am going to have to shoot some video of the two of them going bananas. It’s just too much fun not to share.
HA! HA!! I’m just now catching up on your blog and saw this entry…that was SUCH a BLAST. Round 2 sometime soon for sure!!! Man, can you imagine them in this snow?!
Dude, I know! Ruby and Nieve were playing snowplow earlier. “The girls” will have to share a snowday sometime soon.
