The cats had no idea what was in store for them! A year ago, we decided to keep a stray pup that had shown up on our back step. She was sickly, ridden with vermin, and ever so pathetic, but she came around well: For a while, her snoot was kind of too big for [...]

Just some little bits and pieces of thoughts of late: The other night when I was coming home from work, I had one of those absolutely glorious and magical rides that just makes you happy to be alive and pedalling. It has been surprisingly cool and rainy lately and there’s quite a lot of marshy [...]

I borrow James & Dalia’s dogs Nieve & Bagheera pretty regularly so that they can play with Ruby (or I take Ruby over there to pester their dogs…either way, it works). I had the dogs over today ’cause Ruby was full of beans, and I personally couldn’t wear her out! I’d taken her on about [...]

As you can see, our dog Ruby is one furry beast. She’s got super-fuzzy ears, a fine ruff of fur around her neck and shoulders, shaggy haunches, and an impressive plume of a tail. While she doesn’t exactly have what you call a double coat, she does have what I call a coat-and-a-half. She has [...]

When all of the dogs are horizontal, you know that a good time has been had by all. Apparently, we were on the ground floor of a trend amongst our social circle of taking in abandoned puppies. Our friends Julie & Tracey took in a stray Rottweiler/GSD pup about two weeks ago. His name is [...]

As a pet-owner, I have many nicknames for my pets, individually and collectively. I figured what the heck, I might as well highlight a bit of the silliness that is my life with critters. This one is Minnie Pearl. Mostly known as Minnie, but also as “dammit, kitty,” “kittygirl” “Little Miss” “Pesty-pest,” “small-cat,” “dumbass,” “Satan,” [...]

I am obviously not a prescient woman, and have one especial blind spot in my planning; I scrub out the bathtub twice every two weeks. Okay, so I scrub it out once a week, every week. However, every two weeks, I give the dog a bath, and almost invariably, the dog gets her bath in [...]

DSCN1168, originally uploaded by joeldyke. Ruby was a lost, burr-ridden, and kind of pathetic little puppy. What you’re seeing there is a poor little pup who has worms, fleas, and hasn’t had a good, square meal in days. This is the animal who showed up on our back step on 7-27-08, about three months old, [...]

Dog gives every indication of being just fine. Little beast sure put me through a panic this morning! Anyway, she’s outside chasing Nieve around and being her normal, perky, pesty self. Hopefully this being-just-fine thing continues, and I’m pretty sure that it will. I probably worry too much, but that’s just how I am.

When your dog steals your breakfast, which could prove toxic to her, so you have to make her barf. That sucks! This morning, I was eating my breakfast at the coffee table in the living room, because I had started to dig through some boxes of paperwork I wanted to organize, and I had it [...]
